arms and hands

so after a while of avoiding the matter, in a craze I decided to make some hands on a sculpture, I was avoiding the matter because all previous attempts appeared horrendous.

Beginning with the creation of some mits i divided the fingers and gave them shape, at first the hands were a little bit too big, using a crafting knife i cut them down and re smoothed the shape, separately the fingers looked fine but once clumped they seemed.... I just didn't like the shape and look of them, but i kept them the way they were so that the next time i make hands I will have a comparison which will help me improve.

The final touch was a simple bow, my hands were too shaky to make anything intricate but it does the job.

The pictures document my progress.

I didint want to use the sandpaper too much since I was worried a finger might snap off, in the end I found the hands to be a tad too big nevertheless it is a good first attempt and i am quite happy with it.

hard surface rendering

The hard surface rendering was a little tricky for me at first since I don't really have an eye for mechanical concepts.

The final outcome turned out quite well considering my worries.

For the vampire I wanted to make it look like it was made from stone since i always found larger scales interesting.

I found this quite difficult since I find it a little difficult to work with levels in photoshop, nevertheless i still like it even if the head looks flat.

lava monster homework

seeing to vast amounts of ideas I was..

Stuck for ideas, so i started drawing a giant that would represent a volcano though its size, I just knew that it had to have a glowing spine.

The above screenshot is my favourite, the way that the lava curves on the arm makes it look like skin contracting during movement.

I must say i did have fun with this task and I am glad to know that I can sort of understand the combination of colour and tones that make the lava brighter.

T-rex Modelling

Since I still have a lot to learn from modeling I didn't notice when instead of repeating my previous action I duplicated the model, so rather than have trouble with it I decided it was going to be easier to use the provided model for the UV mapping.

Unwrapping the model for texturing was easy enouth all you really need is to know where to cut them so that the UV maps arent screwed up.

Playing with lava

So initialy i was extremely irritated as I was unable to create good lava, and looking around i seemed to be the only one.
The texturing before and after made me happier as I felt that it actually worked and looked better.

In the end i started playing with the inner and outer glow as it gave a very nice effect, like that ofa weapon slash, the crusty brush also gave the effect of a Japanese brush seen in the lower left writing the kanji for "human"

The same slash effect became useful on the golem task

I didint want the golem to be surrounded by lava, I only wanted it to look like its charging an attack and thus making the lava glow.

This was some experimentation I did with the effect, looking back at it, it does actually look like a sword and looks nice.
