Animating In maya

Looking at the way the object bends I can understand how badly this can go if you're not careful.

So here is the fish i made back during the first weeks, its terrible, i don't have the time to remake it and i will probably have trouble making a skeleton for it.

Working alongside the video, its like the other videos, except i can understand this one.

Animating is a lot simpler than I imagined it would be.

I knew it was going to be one of those "it's quiet.... Too quiet" moments, fish are quite tricky to animate even if they are very basic creatures.

I'll see if i can find a safe and free software that lets you record the screen and produce a video.

Old Lady Painting

This is my interpretation of the old lady painting, though it is not finished i am able to tell that the solid tones were quite accurate, the form and proportions were drawn to resemble the original.
For someone who never believed he'd do well in painting I'm quite impressed even if it is incredibly basic.

Dwarf and Elf proportional design (in progress)

I begun by creating the dwarf proportions, having never drawn dwarves before I begun from the muscle structure.

The most effective way to create the body was to use examples of human muscle structures and create a morphed version of them.
Completing the body structure I moved to the face.

I find it that a blue and silver/grey would give the dwarf a look of pride and nobility, emotions that are native to dwarves

Some armour and solid colours to begin the painting.

Testing the shine on the armour.

I had to stop here after the last 3 days my hand hurts and I don't think  can make anything good in this state, The shadows on the silver armour are too dark and stand out too much, they need to be more subtle.

Temple model

The task was to create a model of this temple.

Once the main roof parts were made i had to texture them properly so that i could copy and resize them to the rest of th bulitung.

I used the provided roof texture for the main part, the golden curtain like shape had to be made separately, i used Photoshop to produce a single one then saved it as a PNG as PNG's accept the transparent area leaving no white below the gold. I then applied this to the sides of the roof.

I then edited the texture slightly adding an outline on the gold.

Progress on the structure in the center.
I came closer to understanding the texture editor after my textures warped I used vertex selector in the UV Editor to fix them.

Before and after on some of the warping.

I was editing a texture on the wooden beams when maya suddenly crashed.
RIP. my progress...

Making the golden thingy.

making the terrace/balcony.

Making and editing the pillars.
The pillar is composed of two parts to make the indentations easier to form.

I made some pillars and it seems like it's really coming together now.

After adding some details like the planks on the temple, placed enough pillars extruded the space and added windows+doors I ended up with this, now i just have to fix the textures.

The colours may really be off from the original however I believe that this is a very accurate reconstruction.

Anatomical skeleton studies (in progress)

Compulsory music for viewing.

I begun with the skull and produced an ink study.

The near final outcome seems bearable though i feel that the jaw ruins the piece because of its bulk, ruining the subtlety of the upper skull.

Heres the reference of each bone marked, its terrible since i have never produced a full skeleton study on any scale, i can see that the arms are too short and the lower body is too large.

This skull definetly looked a lot better without the jaw, i believe its because i feel like ive ruined the shape.

quick painting

Primarily being a traditional sculptor I find it very hard to transfer over to painting be it traditional or digital, however i know that i will be able to do it at some point, not through a realistic style but a sketchy and rough way.

I was having trouble recreating the original painting so i went on to try different brush marks and looking at the piece from further away it does seem a little nice the initial solid colours really make it feel like a night scene.

I was unable to finish this drawing as it was a set time.

silouette monsters

Here are the references: a bug that replaces a fishes tongue and the Japanese spider crab.
my inspiration behind the monster designs were the creepier sea crawlers.

After successfully creating three monster silhouettes the next step was to render their details, looking at the progress on the middle one a little practice can take me somewhere, I will progress with the one on the right by trying to highlight the shell on its body leaving the gaps as black.

After picking a suitable colour that would suit the solid black I begun to mark out the shell.

So far so good.
The shell looks very interesting, now to cover the whole body.

My hand hurts but its mostly finished, i will now erase some of the orange to create detail, then I will experiment with the back colour and shades.

I will probably put cracks and chips all over the body as it will help refine the worn look.

I love how the orange looks almost pastel like making the surface appear crusty and bumpy.

After adding some cracks to the crab I attempted to improve the fish by making it appear as if it just emerged from some boggy water.

I am quite fond of the style used with the crab and believe it can be refined into something nice and unique with some experimentation.
