silouette monsters

Here are the references: a bug that replaces a fishes tongue and the Japanese spider crab.
my inspiration behind the monster designs were the creepier sea crawlers.

After successfully creating three monster silhouettes the next step was to render their details, looking at the progress on the middle one a little practice can take me somewhere, I will progress with the one on the right by trying to highlight the shell on its body leaving the gaps as black.

After picking a suitable colour that would suit the solid black I begun to mark out the shell.

So far so good.
The shell looks very interesting, now to cover the whole body.

My hand hurts but its mostly finished, i will now erase some of the orange to create detail, then I will experiment with the back colour and shades.

I will probably put cracks and chips all over the body as it will help refine the worn look.

I love how the orange looks almost pastel like making the surface appear crusty and bumpy.

After adding some cracks to the crab I attempted to improve the fish by making it appear as if it just emerged from some boggy water.

I am quite fond of the style used with the crab and believe it can be refined into something nice and unique with some experimentation.
